dot Establishes Driver Training Standards

Effective February 7, 2022

The DOT has established new training standards for entry-level truck operators that became a requirement on February 7, 2022.  This new training standard includes classroom and behind-the-wheel training.


This rule also creates a directory of FMCSA-approved trainers that are authorized for entry-level truckers to receive their training from.

CDL / Truck Driving Training CONSULTANTS

Veritas Crane's truck driving course will provide you with the knowledge and experience needed to complete your CDL license, according to the new ELDT guidelines. We will start you with the basics and move through everything you need to know to feel confident behind the wheel. The training includes theory and a great deal of behind-the-wheel experience as well as learning to understand the actual truck. 

CDL / Truck Driving Class - 80 Hour

Classroom Theory - 40 Hours  

Includes 33 sections of training.  All sections must be completed with a satisfactory score before moving onto the Behind-the-Wheel section of the course. 


Behind the Wheel & Range and Skills Training - 40 Hours

The CDL training will consist of 40 hours of behind-the-wheel, range, and skills training. There will be no more than one student per training in the class


Class Requirements

The following items are required for enrollment in the CDL training class:


  • Completed CDL training application 
  • Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) release form 
  • A copy of the participants current North Dakota or Minnesota driver's license 
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) physical.  The cost of the physical is not included in the cost of the training. Any provider who is registered with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) can complete the DOT physical.  We can help suggest providers. 
  • Copy of current North Dakota or Minnesota Class A driver's permit. Those who do not have a valid permit will need to obtain one before applying for this course.  The cost of obtaining the permit is not included in training.   
  • Participants enrolled in the CDL training class will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. The cost of this test is included in the cost of the training. If a second test is needed, the participant will be responsible for this cost.
